Blogger Paul Watson of ilikecamera has written a review of Apple’s new Aperture workflow-management program (which is now shipping, by the way). Aperture is not just for Mac users: it’s for Mac Users who are faint of neither heart nor wallet, since it requires a top Powerbook or a 1.8GHz G5, minimum 1 GB of RAM, one of the better video cards, and at least a DVD-ROM drive.
“Frankly I am very disappointed. I knew it was not a Photoshop killer and I did not want it to be but I was hoping Aperture would be the perfect fit for Photoshop; the starting point for organising your photographs and kicking off the RAW editing process. But if Aperture’s RAW algorithms are poor then nobody is going to use it for that and at $500 nobody is going to use it just for organisation.”

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackIndeed Aperture is very nice. I only got it last week and I’m already impressed by its fluidity and speed. It offers a ton of advanced options in a real easy and simple interface. I won’t ever need to import pictures with iphoto, and I only ever use Photoshop for montage because Aperture does the job really well. Well done Apple.
