Are you the type to try on of these Wi-Fi cameras? Will this be just a mere fad or is this Wi-Fi stuff here to stay? If you ask me, I’d rather have a GPS built into my camera and have all the photos location stamped than be able to email photos directly from a camera –but I digress.

The Nikon Coolpix 8-megapixel P1 and the five-megapixel P2 are the world’s first digital cameras with built-in Wi-Fi capabilities to transmit images via 802.11b and 802.11g-compatible wireless networks and adapters to a computer or most PictBridge-enabled printers equipped with the new Nikon Wireless Printer Adapter (PD-10). Eliminating the need for extra wires or cables, the new models allow consumers to send images from the camera direct to a selected computer or printer with the touch of a button.

This Nikon Coolpix has 16 scene modes, an auto mode, a program mode, and an aperture priority mode. This model also has the Nikon technology suite that includes Face Priority Auto Focus, in-camera red-eye fix, and D-Lighting compensation. The compact P1 has a 2.5-inch LCD screen with 110,000 pixels, a 3.5x optical zoom lens, and 32MB of internal memory.

Steves Digicams have just posted their Nikon Coolpix P1 Digital Camera User Review. Here’s what Steve thinks of this Wi-Fi camera-

“Nikon’s Coolpix P1 is a nice ultra-compact digicam that produces good quality 8-megapixel images and VGA sized movies; and lets not forget its 802.11 b/g certified. I liked just about every feature on this model, and was only annoyed when trying to capture spontaneous moments of friends and family indoors. However, outdoors or when snapping under very good lighting, it will keep up with similar models in its class. At about $399, it offers a good value and will make a great choice for family, business, or tourist users and is sure to please the WiFi geeks who hate wires.”
