The beautiful design of the camera is striking and eye-catching. Nikon has paid more and more attention to the software inside the camera lately. Especially this item is offered to play a bigger role at the present time. Functions like auto red eye correction inside the camera and also Face priority AF function, offer a lot of user-friendliness and they do their job pleasantly.

Looking at the camera itself, all the controls are well-situated, but it would have been nice had Nikon designed it so the S3 would be easy to use with one hand. Then again, that is an industry-wide problem rather than Nikon’s alone. The buttons are all easily accessible because they are all well-proportioned, with the most frequently used options not deeply embedded in the menu and the LCD also being big enough to appreciate.

Overall, the Coolpix S3 is a beautiful camera, with an impressive size, a few useful options and capable of taking great pictures. The faults, however, are the flash, grainy LCD, and its steep price tag of $479 CAD. This camera particularly appeals to the minimalist because of its awesome size, but since there are cameras that are better value propositions, such as ones from Olympus or Canon, I would wait for its price to drop before picking the Coolpix S3 up.
