TOKYO (AFX) - Nikon Corp plans to stop
manufacturing all but two of its eight single-lens reflex film cameras
to focus on digital cameras, the Kyodo News Service reported, citing
President Michio Kariya.
Nikon, a maker of digital cameras and
steppers - or photolithography machines for integrated circuits, will
let the stock run out on six film camera models.
The F6, the company’s flagship film camera,
and the FM10, an entry-level film camera, will remain in the lineup,
but the company will not develop new versions, Kyodo quoted Kariya as
saying.
‘Sales of film cameras account for only 2 pct
of overall sales. We’d like to concentrate our personnel and financial
resources on the digital camera market,’ Kariya said, according to
Kyodo.
