Many Canon EOS 20D owners are facing a dilemma right now. Should I upgrade my Canon EOS 20D to an EOS 30D? It’s a tough question to answer. A lot of users were disappointed that the EOS 30D did not include a 10 megapixel sensor to compete with the Nikon D200. Add to this the fact that 20D bodies are going on eBay for $800-900 currently.

Complete Digital Photography have written about this in Should you upgrade your Canon EOS 20D to an EOS 30D?

They think-

“If you’re a hobbiest and you can safely say “I really have trouble reading the menus because they’re too small” or “reviewing images is crucial to my snapping process” or “I live to snap at high ISOs,” then the upgrade might be worth it and might make your photographic experience more satisfying.

But if the most you can say is “yeah, there are some times when it would have been nice to have a spot meter” or “sometimes I have to squint to see the image on the screen” then the 30D is probably not going to improve the overall quality of your images. If you want that kind of improvement, you’d be better off putting $500 into a better lens, or maybe a photography class.”

What do I think? If you’re a Canon user, the glut of 20D’s on the market are really appealing.
