“For its price, the D2x offers incredible control, excellent image quality, and a supertough body that pros will love. It also has advanced flash support, wireless capabilities and a long battery life. It’s about time.”
So says PopPhoto.com in their Test: Nikon D2x. Here are some more results-
Resolution: Excellent (2000Vx2100H x2125D lines).
Color accuracy: Excellent (Avg. Delta E: 7.35).
Highlight/shadow detail: Very high.
Contrast: Adjustable high to low.
Noise: Extremely low from ISO 100 to 400, very low at ISO 800, low at 1600, and moderately low at ISO 3200.
Image quality: Excellent from ISO 100 to 1600, extremely high at ISO 3200.
AF speed: Identical to the D2h and one of the fastest we’ve ever tested. In bright light levels (from EV 12 to EV 7), the AF speed is superfast at 0.31-0.4 sec. In moderately low light (EV 6 to EV 3), the AF speed is extremely fast at 0.4-0.55 sec. At EV 1, it slows just a bit to 0.70 sec. Even in extremely low light levels at EV 0, where most other SLRs fail, the D2x still locks on in just 1.1 sec.
Viewfinder: Same as the D2H with Cropping Mode guidelines added. Shows 97% of the picture area, an excellent performance with virtually no parallax error. The viewfinder magnification is 0.86X, a very good result. The green lines in the AF chart, below, show marked AF zones, while the red lines represent the actual sensitivity in each zone. There are three full cross sensors and six T-shaped cross sensors with minor overlapping. Two linear AF sensors on far right and left show vertical sensitivity only and are twice as long as marked.
