I just got my hands on a copy of Blow Up. It’s a piece of software from the folks at Alien Skin, the same people who produce Exposure, Eye Candy, and more.

Blow Up does what is says, it enlarges images. It does this however with complex software algorithms which can preserve an images lines and color transitions. Whats more, you can enlarge an image sometimes as much as thirty or more times!

I found the software to install flawlessly as usual for Alien Skin stuff, and got to work right away fiddling with all the controls. It allowed me photo grain control and enlargement-specific sharpening, all without producing unsightly artifacts or halos - wow. The grain you can add makes my images look like they were done in film; I find myself using these effects more and more.

Blow Up isn’t stand-alone software however. You must already own Adobe Photoshop CS (or later), or Adobe Photoshop Elements 3 (or later). It runs on Macs and Windows. You can check out some examples here.

So, there you go. If you need to enlarge an image, Blow Up is designed for the task.
