Agree the Nikon D200 is a Slam Dunk. Will be disappointed if Canon does a minor upgrade on the D20. They need to go a lot further to beat the D200, with a large selection of collection of canon lens. I'm stuck. Wait till Nikon picks up Minolta's in-camera VR and than all of a suddenly our IS lenses will be old school. Technology is great!

Seems just about right to me. Pixels enough for decent reproduction. And let's hope they keep it as simple as possible. Actually all that is needed is an ISO setting, white balance shutter speed, auto focus and a screen, aperture/speed priority and control functions like “mirror up/clean. High speed sequences (5-10 fps) are nice, but this is supposed to be a STILL camera. We got on for years with film, lenses, built in exposure systems and auto focus. RAW/JPG is certainly worthwhile. Things like “parameters”, “custom” functions and “rotate”, and so on seem a bit much, even for a professional level camera. Just because it *can* be done does wnot mean it should.

To all - I have it on good authority that we'll hear something about the upgrade by June 2006, and yes, a healthy 2" LCD screen will be included. I don't know what they'll call it but my money is on the 30D. TJC

Canon better have some amount of seals in the alleged 30D if they intend to compete with the
Nikon D200. Merely tweaking the 20D MP count and firmware is not enough. Nikon has a slam dunk
with the D200 if they deliver on the promise of the specifications. I sold my Canon 300D system
in anticipation of this battle. I can stay with Canon if they respond in the next 3-4 months,
but I need a new system before spring, thus Nikon wins as it stands today, all things considered.
it is not so simple for folks with a heavy investment in all things Canon. I watch with great interest.

There is one exception that comes immediately to mind......the 350D is actually an upgrade of the 300D is it not?

TYPO: "in replacement of the 10D"... You mean 20D, right?

No, there were never a 30D, only the old D30. But, maybe Canon will be careful of using the name 30D for that reason? Only time will tell, I guess... Maybe it'll be 25D, 40D, 3000D? Who knows... But a new upgraded 20D with a 1.6x sensor, a larger and brighter viewfinder, slightly more MP, larger LCD etc. - might just be a sweet camera, an excellent option instead of the Nikon D200 for those who already invested in the Canon system... Many are sure waiting for this upgrade, and the only thing I guess we know for sure, is that it will indeed come. Question is just when and what it will include. All we can do now, is to dream and speculate... ;)
