Digital SLR cameras are expensive investments and also precision instruments. I have a Nikon D70 that I like to take almost everywhere with me; certainly every hike I take. When the folks at Made Products Inc. offered to send me a review sample of their Camera Armor protector I jumped at the chance. It arrived today in the mail.
Once I figured out how to open the package (a little challenging) I got it on my camera in under a minute (easy). Nicely color coordinated with my camera’s body, it also fit very well; better than I expected really. All the buttons on my camera were still easy to find and push. It’s very much like the cover I bought for my iPod nano with a rubber feel to it. I love that sure grip feel – especially when I’m holding expensive toys. It’s thick enough to actually offer some protection from bumps but camera controls are still operational. This will be great for my outdoor work. I can actually carry my camera now as I hike the trails or bike somewhere. Before I had to use a case, and I have lost countless shots because of the time lost getting the case open and camera out. Wildlife doesn’t wait. An added bonus I thought of is protection from rain – nice.
Also included with the armor was a super clear LCD cover and a lens hood completely made of rubber, so it stretches to fit a variety of lenses. I already use rubber lens hoods for my lenses when outdoors so I might not have a use for this, but it’s nice to have in my kit as an option.
I’m really quite pleased with my Camera Armor. My D70 will probably live inside this protector now. It looks good and now I can get serious about taking pictures.

The Nikon SB-400 Speedlight has been designed by Nikon for the D40 digital SLR, and is a compact yet powerful external flash with a tilting front (horizontal, 60, 75 and 90 degrees). This unit has a guide number of 21 (m at ISO 100 at 18mm) and has a shooting distance of 60 cm to 20 m (2 to 66 ft).
“With its powerful guide number of 21*, the SB-400 is an ideal flash unit for beginners in digital SLR photography, but it is also useful for hobbyists and professionals looking for a handy i-TTL flash unit offering an effortless bounce flash function.
The SB-400 has been specifically developed to provide photographers with an entry-level external flash unit which is compatible with i-TTL flash operation. When combined with cameras that are compatible with the Nikon Creative Lighting System, the SB-400 is controlled in i-TTL and D40’s M (manual) mode.
The SB-400’s flash head can be tilted in 4 steps – horizontal, as well as 60, 75 and 90 degrees – and has a flash shooting distance range of between 60cm to 20m (depending on the camera’s ISO setting). Slow Sync, Red-eye Reduction and other flash modes can also be set on the camera body, enabling users to enjoy brighter and more natural lighting for better flash pictures. “
